About Bun & Bottle

๐Ÿ” The burger connoisseur

It started with a bun-to-patty ratio complaint nobody asked to hear, and it never really stopped. Somewhere along the way, "Ben's Burger Reviews" became a real acronym people said out loud, unironically, as in "yeah but what's the BBR?" That's not a normal thing for your friends to say about you. I've made my peace with it.

A great burger is judged on the fundamentals: char, structural integrity (a burger that collapses in your hands has failed you personally), a sauce-to-everything-else ratio that isn't an afterthought, and whether I'm still thinking about it two days later. A 10/10 lives rent-free. Most don't.

๐Ÿฅ› The milkman

The "milkman" nickname is the single most-asked-about thing in my entire life, and I've never once given a straight answer in under five minutes. Here's the real version: I go out of my way โ€” gas stations, corner stores, entire other countries โ€” for flavored milk nobody else is looking for. Melon milk. Banana milk that tastes suspiciously like the candy. Some regional gas-station horchata-adjacent situation I still think about. People started sending me photos of weird milk before sending them to anyone else, and at some point that became my whole personality.

A great one earns its flavor honestly (tastes like the thing, not like a lab's idea of the thing), isn't too sweet, and never forgets it's still milk underneath โ€” not flavored sugar water wearing a costume.

Why this site exists

People ask me where to eat constantly, and texting the same three burger opinions to a new group chat every month got old. This is that answer, permanently, with an actual score attached instead of "yeah it's pretty good I guess." One scale, 0 to 10, used for everything โ€” a burger and a milk are directly comparable, and no, I don't think that's a strange way to run a rating system.

It started as burgers. It is very much no longer just burgers. This is what happens when you let scope creep run a food blog.
